I was burning with unspoken words,
He was hiding behind winter’s cold.
I kept chasing around the turns,
And he would disappear in icy folds.
He said I was everything he wanted
But not something for the keeps
Like water in a parching desert
And he was an empty vessel that seeps
The rain swallowed my tears,
Then dropped them at his feet.
But he stood unfazed by the storms,
While I kept grasping at what couldn't meet
He said ours was a story
Of a broken record on repeat
The wind howled like a constant ache,
While the cold settled in my heart, in defeat
So like the autumn leaves,
I let go of his branches behind,
And found a place where I could breathe,
Where the storm could no longer find.
