India is constitutionally a secular country, meaning that the state does not favor any particular religion and treats all religions equally. However, in practical reality, the extent to which secularism is upheld is often debated.

There are instances where political, social, and cultural factors influence religious harmony. While the Indian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, the implementation of secularism sometimes gets challenged by communal politics, societal biases, and policy decisions that may seem to favor or discriminate against certain religious groups.

That being said, India is also one of the most diverse countries in the world, where multiple religions, languages, and cultures coexist. Despite challenges, the fundamental secular framework remains intact, even if it faces tests from time to time.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think India is truly secular in its functioning?

It is secular by constitutionally but not by some people's thoughts, which are still based on uni-religion country.....india is known for its diversity so as a citizen of Bharat we should accept it, celebrate it and stand by it

Exactly! India’s strength has always been in its diversity. The constitution lays the foundation for secularism, but it’s up to the people to truly embody it in their thoughts and actions. Respecting and celebrating different cultures, traditions, and beliefs is what makes Bharat unique. Standing by this diversity isn’t just about tolerance—it’s about embracing the beauty of coexistence. Well said!
