This everyone is called EPIPHYSEAL PLATE ,also known as growth plate .It is the area where bone growth occurs thus is only present in children and adolescents.when a person reaches adulthood,the gap fuses and the bones become one.
Yes ,both are normal x-rays but the first one depicts the shoulder of child while the second one is that if an adult.


This EPIPHYSEAL plate does not only occur at shoulders but are scattered all over childs skeleton.
Take a look at this pediatric hand x-ray

All those little knots of extra bones in the fingers are due to gwroth plate .They will fuse with main bones upon reaching adulthood .
Im sure many of you are aware babies are born with 300 bones in their body while adults have only 206,now I've told you where those extra 94 bones went ;)
