Summer had always felt like she was living in two worlds. Born and raised in a Gulf country, she was a Keralite at heart, with an inherent longing for the lush green landscapes of Kerala. Her elder brother, Winter, was the quiet type, an introvert who preferred books over people. Their parents were still abroad when they returned to Kerala for their studies, planning to embark on new academic journeys. But then, the world shut down due to the pandemic, and they found themselves stranded in the very place they had always longed to be.
Boredom and loneliness set in quickly. Summer, at just 19, was a beacon of pure love and innocence. Seeking connection, she turned to a chat site, where she met Autumn. He was different – laid back, with a passion for photography and videography. His words filled the emptiness in her days, and soon, their chats turned into calls, and then into real-life meetings. Autumn’s attention and affection made her forget the solitude that had weighed heavily on her.
Autumn introduced her to his close friends: Witchy, a strong-willed woman who had a significant influence on him, and Mr. Touchy, Witchy's husband. Witchy, however, didn’t take kindly to Summer. She viewed the innocent girl as an intruder in their tight-knit group, and her dislike was palpable. Yet, Summer, with her pure heart, tried to brush it off, believing that love would conquer all.
As their relationship deepened, so did the challenges. Summer’s parents, upon learning about her relationship, confined her to the house, fearing for her future. They wanted her to focus on her studies, to pursue her dreams of a professional career that could take her to Europe or the US. Despite the restrictions and the emotional turmoil, Summer’s resolve never wavered. She loved Autumn with a depth that even she hadn’t known she possessed.
But Autumn’s connection to Witchy proved to be an insurmountable barrier. Witchy’s influence over him was strong, and Autumn, despite his love for Summer, was unwilling to sever ties with his best friend. The constant conflict and emotional strain took their toll on Summer. She fell into a deep depression, her once bright world now cloaked in darkness.
It was in this pit of despair that a transformation began. Despite the pain, Summer found a well of strength within her. She channeled her energy into her studies, driven by a determination to make something of herself. Her love for Autumn, though still present, became a source of resilience rather than weakness. She knew she had to rise above her circumstances, not just for herself, but to prove to her parents that their faith in her was not misplaced.
With time, Summer completed her course with flying colors. She secured a position in a prestigious program abroad, her ticket to a new life. As she boarded the plane, leaving behind the land of her roots, she carried with her the lessons learned from love and heartache. She had loved deeply and lost, but in the process, she had found herself
In her new country, far from the memories of Autumn and the shadows of Witchy, Summer flourished. She made her parents proud, not just through her academic and professional achievements, but through her resilience and strength of character. The girl who had once been lonely and heartbroken had become a beacon of hope and success.
And so, Summer’s story was one of love and loss, but also of triumph over adversity. She learned that sometimes, the deepest pains can lead to the greatest strengths, and that true love, even if lost, can guide one to unimaginable heights.
