Every year, Teacher's Day is observed on September 5 to commemorate the birthday of India's first Vice-president Dr. Sarvopalli Radhakrisnan. It is believed that the custom of organising Teachers' day on this day started when some of his students visited Dr. Radhakrishna to wish him a happy birthday in 1962.
