The “DD eye” logo was designed by NID alumnus Devashis Bhattacharyya in the early 1970s; Prime Minister Indira Gandhi picked his design from NID submissions.


In a 2017 statement, Doordarshan, often abbreviated as DD, said that its logo has "inspired deep nostalgia" over the years, but that it was seeking a new logo design to engage with India's youth

In May 2019, Prasar Bharti — the TV wing of India’s public service broadcasting — shortlisted five submissions for DD’s new logo.

The iconic Doordarshan logo will soon be a thing of the past, as the broadcaster has unveiled its new logo online. The television wing of India's public service broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, revealed the top five designs selected from more than 10,000 entries on Monday. The logo designing contest took place between July and August 2017 as Doordarshan sought to modernise its network.

Looking at these, I think the current one is still better..


These are terrible in their current forms. Logos should never be selected from contests. Hire real designers, pay them, and ask them to build a brand’s entire design language, not just a logo.

Many asked Doordarshan to simply keep the old logo instead of picking from any of the new ones.
