Music director
Vidyasagar is one of the most successful and underrated composers of our times having delivered numerous memorable songs. The national award winner has worked in over 225 films spanning over 5 languages including one English film. He has also scored riveting bgms for all top stars of Tamil cinema.
Kabadi track
The Kabbadi intro track for
Ghilli still gives goosebumps to fans and the intro scene is fondly looked back upon due to the mass bgm of Vidyasagar. So much so that it was reworked and used in Vijay’s Master by Anirudh and Lokesh Kanagaraj. The album was a chartbuster and all the songs are still fresh in people's memory.
Anbe Sivam
The title track of the film can move anyone and is listened to by many on long nights. With powerful singing by
Kamal Haasan and meaningful lyrics of Vairamuthu elevates this song. Be it Yelo machi machi or Poovasam, Anbe Sivam album has many soulful songs. The Naattukoru Seithi track is a unique one used in a street play sequence.
Malare Mounama
The song from Arjun’s Karna is a good example to show how good Vidyasagar is when it comes to melodies. With vocals by
SP Balasubramaniam and S Janaki, the song is exactly what meme creators will call these days as - a vibe material.
Kaatrin Mozhi
The Mozhi album is proof that Vidyasagar’s reign over melodies is no less than any of his contemporary musicians. The Kaatrin Mozhi song is a slow melody that leaves a lasting impact on the listeners. This album is a feather to his cap!
Kadhal Vandhaal
Every legendary music composer has at least one love failure song which ticks all the boxes, Kadhal Vandhaal is one such song for Vidyasagar. The
Iyarkai album and bgm is still held special by many from that generation. The Youtube comments of the songs are testimony to the same.
From small films to big budget, star vehicles and with a fairly new crew, Vidyasagar has delivered hits with all. We wish him a very happy 59th birthday! And what are your favourite songs by the composer?
