Continued from: Beneath the Silence : 1
Hannah: “You’re always here around this time.”
Ethan: “Yeah, it’s a habit now. It’s the one part of my day that’s just… mine.”
Hannah: “I get that. I come here for the same reason. It’s comforting, isn’t it? The buzz, the familiar faces.”
Ethan: “It is. Life gets loud, but this place… it’s like a quiet corner in the middle of it all.”
Hannah: “You don’t seem like someone who lets the noise get to them.”
Ethan: “You’d be surprised. But I guess I’ve learned to carry it without letting it show.”
Hannah: “That sounds… heavy.”
Ethan: “It can be. But I’m used to it. Responsibility doesn’t wait for you to feel ready.”
Hannah: “And what about what you want? Do you ever make space for that?”
Ethan: (pauses, his gaze shifting to the window) “I’m not sure I know what that looks like anymore.”
Hannah: (leans forward slightly) “Maybe you just haven’t had the chance to figure it out yet.”
Ethan: (smiles faintly) “Maybe. What about you? You seem like someone who knows what they want.”
Hannah: (laughs softly) “You give me too much credit. I’m figuring things out as I go. But I know I want to keep creating. Art makes sense when nothing else does.”
Ethan: “That’s something, though. Having a passion to anchor you.”
Hannah: “And what anchors you, Ethan?”
Ethan: (pauses, then answers quietly) “The people I care about. Making sure they’re okay.”
Hannah: (smiles gently) “That’s admirable, but… maybe someone should care about how you’re doing, too.”
Ethan: (meets her gaze, surprised but thoughtful) “Maybe.”
For a moment, the conversation lingers in the air, unspoken thoughts filling the quiet between them. Both feel something shift—a subtle but undeniable connection forming.
