Independence Day is a national day of the Republic of India.India gained independence from British rule on 15 August 1947.To commemorate that event, 15 August is celebrated as Independence Day in India every year.Non-violent, non-cooperation and civil disobedience movements led by the Indian National Congress and various extremist Guptas India achieved independence after a long freedom struggle led by violent movements of political associations.Thousands of people were martyred in the freedom movement.Many have had to admit their sorrows.Many revolutionaries sacrificed their lives on the gallows with a smile to break the chains of the motherland.Many revolutionaries were imprisoned for life.Just before independence, the British Indian Empire was partitioned on religious lines,resulting in the birth of the kingdoms of India and Pakistan.During the Partition,communal riots caused a lot of damage.Many people lost their lives and more than 1.5 million people were displaced.On 15 August 1947,Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian national flag over the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi after being sworn in as India's first Prime Minister.
